I had a great time performing as Psyche Corporation at Wicked Faire 2011 ^_^. Above is a photo of my performing outfit, with birdcage panniers made by steampunk designer Kristin Costa. I have a bunch more from the same shoot below the cut, as well as some photos from Kristin's fashion showcase, "Monstrous", in NYC earlier the same week (last Wednesday).

Enjoy!Collapse )

More info..

Psyche Corp. is a cybersteam music conglomerate seeking to combine art, fashion, dance, and science within the framework of a technomythological world of life-extension and virtual reality servers full of wonderful nightmares. Specializing in an unique genre often described as dark Victorian fairytale science fiction, the band itself is named after a dream manufacture group from the future where widespread neural implants have allowed people to jack their nerve endings directly into the internet and download dreams. As a performance group, Psyche Corporation has at various times incorporated robot exhibitions, steel origami cranes, contortion, corsets, flashlights, and old radios. The music spans genres; a recent song has mixed tribal singing with classical piano while embedding the DNA of deadly polio virus into its percussion.

To get an idea of how our music sounds, here's one of our songs, "Institute."

You are Invited to Dorian's Parlor!
Steampunk, Neo-victorian, Dorian's Parlor
dorians_parlor

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Dorian’s Parlor yet, you should definitely put “Attend January’s Event” at the top of your list of New Year’s Resolutions. A monthly Steampunk event held at Ormandy Ballroom of the Doubletree in downtown Philadelphia, Dorian’s Parlor embodies the very spirit of the New Year. It takes the old – fashions, ideas, etiquette, food, games, music – and reinvents them to create something shining-new and daring, bold and enticing. There is a sense of excitement and nostalgia in the air as patrons come together to dance, sip cocktails, enjoying hors d'oeuvres and partake in a one-of-its-kind lineup of bands, DJs, circus performances and high fashion from the foremost neo-vintage designers. This is one resolution that you’re sure to enjoy keeping.

The next 21+ event will be held Saturday, January 22nd, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the Ormandy Ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel, on the Avenue of the Arts in downtown Philadelphia. Admission is $25, and includes a drink ticket and hors d’oeuvres.

In NYC on New Years Eve
New Year's Eve: The Bootleggers' Ball
http://geminiandscorpio.com/events.html
The contraband has been ordered, authorities paid off, and performers lined up for a New Year's Eve speakeasy ball in a breathtaking former church with soaring ceilings. Expect the intimacy of a daring cabaret mixed with the intrigue of a vintage costumed ball, expansiveness of a warehouse dance party, excitement of live brass, a splash of fine cocktails, and just a dash of illicit adventure and unpredictable moments.

Featuring:
Dixieland steamboat soul - Roosevelt Dime
Stealth brass antics - Stumblebum Brass Band
Vintage sweet sweet jazz - DJ Jason Blackkat
Silver film magic - Tsirkus Fotografika
Tarot & 2011 numerology divination - Marcy Currier
Hosted by steampunk dandy GD Falksen

psyche corp / queen of hearts
parallel_rose
Just got back from performing at The Anachronism: Wonderland meets Oz, an epic steampunk event at Webster Hall on Sunday earlier this week. The splendiferously talented fashion designer Kristin Costa lent me her Queen of Hearts costume to wear for the event. Here are some photos of the outfit below, taken by Jerry Bennett near Shampoo in the few hours before the Psyche Corp. show at Diabolique in philly.

The event theme also alludes to a Psyche Corp. song about a battle between Wonderland and Oz.
